BIOGRAPHY ZABO

Daniel Zabo est né à Paris. Très tôt attiré par le dessin, il suit des cours de Peinture en Lettres aux Beaux-Arts. Il entre à l'ORTF, au service Animation, où il dessine des génériques pour plusieurs émissions.

Parallèlement, il commence le dessin humoristique et ses planches paraissent dans de nombreux journaux. Mais à l'âge de 25 ans, l'appel du large lui fait tout quitter. Il part faire le tour du monde avec très peu d'argent en poche. Il survivra grâce à son talent de dessinateur.

Après avoir visité cinquante pays et vécu de nombreuses aventures, il s'installe en Asie (Inde, Japon, Laos, Hong Kong principalement). Il publie un livre de dessins d'humour sur le Japon (Kamikaze) puis un autre sur la vie à Hong Kong (Sweet and Sour) qui rencontrent un joli succès en Asie.

Il ne reviendra en France que 8 ans après son départ ! Il ramène avec lui sa première épouse, une jolie japonaise.

Zabo commence alors une nouvelle vie car le spectacle et l'animation l'attirent beaucoup. Il sera donc animateur puis régisseur dans différents villages de vacances.

Et cela l'amuse pendant une vingtaine d'années ! Il met à profit ce qu'il a observé pour publier un nouveau livre de dessins, « Clubissimo », largement inspiré de son expérience de G.O. au Club Med.

Zabo a une autre passion depuis sa jeunesse : le volley-ball.

En vacances, sur les plages de Bretagne, il y a pris goût et n'a jamais cessé de jouer depuis. C'est donc tout naturellement qu'il a aussi concocté un livre de dessins sur le thème du volley : « Volley Bulle » aujourd'hui épuisé.

Pendant quelques années, Zabo a dessiné les pages en couleur de la revue mensuelle de la fédération française, "Volley Ball".

A la demande de ses amis volleyeurs, il a décidé d'éditer un nouvel album « Volley Gag » sorti en juin 2013.

Malgré l'âge qui avance, Zabo a toujours des projets. Il ne s'habille toujours pas comme tout le monde, c'est ce qu'on appelle un original, un personnage en dehors du commun...

Such a pleasure to be able to write to you. I have two of your works (Kamikaze and Sweet and Sour, the latter inscribed to me in a lovely way!). I often revisit your cartoons, and marvel at the insights you provided in these of life in Hong Kong, where I lived for 30+ years, and my visits to Japan.

I hope this finds you well, and thank you so very, very much for the many years of pleasure and happy reflection you have provided to me, my family and many, many friends.
